The Martini Show
Artists Interpret the Imbibing Vessel
4/24-5/15, 2004

Does the vessel form represent a negative space or a positive one? Is it one that is functional, or conceptual in nature? Can a simple idea have deeper meaning? Is there more to the martini than meets the eye?
Obviously, the artists in our show saw the possibility of larger meaning within the concept of the martini. A simple drink but one with deep cultural roots. We asked each of them to provide a martini recipe to go with their piece as well. In many cases their recipe adds a poignant component of meaning to the overall work.
The artists represented in The Martini Show have demonstrated that the path to interpretation is a wide one. They have explored a wide variety of metalsmithing techniques, employed an interesting mix of materials and explored unique concepts in the creation of their work. We find it all quite astonishing!
All of the artists invited to participate in this event are professional metalsmith colleagues and friends of Tom's, and many are represented in the gallery on a regular basis.
We hope that you will find this show as intriguing as we do.
10% of all sales will go to CERF (The Craft Emergency Relief Fund), which is dedicated to helping artists in the field of craft recover from disasters (fires, floods, earthquakes, etc.) and get them back in their studios making their work.
